A truly excellent omakase experience right in the heart of Center City. Our chef was personable and entertaining, and while he didn't initiate much conversation, he was happy to answer any and all of his patron's questions throughout the meal. The $95 prix fixe menu provided an outstanding value, especially considering Kichi is a BYOB, and it got us 15 courses, including an oyster shooter amuse bouche and a sushi "ice cream cone" to conclude the meal. There were no misses and several hits throughout the meal. The sushi combinations were all very interesting, and the sauces and additional ingredients added continually caught me happily by surprise with each bite. While dining, you will be seated with other parties at the bar. It is a set up the encourages conversations with strangers having a shared experience. Maybe not an introverts dream, but something shared with every omakase I've ever done. My only serious knock was that we were asked if we preferred sparking or still water to begin the meal. We selected still, and our server was very on top of making sure our glasses were never empty. Turns out, they were charging $11 per bottle of water, and we ran through 3 of them, so that was an unpleasant surprise at the end of the meal. Despite that hiccup, we really enjoyed our meal here, and would not hesitate to return, albeit with our own water bottles go along with our sake.
Great first omakase place to try the experience! Food was delicious, fresh, and interesting! I had never been to an omakase tasting meal before and for the price and quality of fish along with the service, I was impressed delighted! Wasn't entirely sure what every day was but I was happy to taste it all lol. BYOB is also a bonus.
My cousin came into town and we decided to start our road trip by kicking it off by celebrating with a special dinner. Saw a few pics of this place and thought that we really need to try it. Wowee! Wowzers! Some of the most amazing sushi I have ever had. Everything was fresh, superb in flavor and taste. We had some amazing selections and when I saw what others were getting, I knew we were getting the red carpet treatment. If you are in the Philly area and want some fabulous omakase, this is the place!
I would not hesitate to say that this is the best sushi experience I've ever had, including in Japan. The service was impeccable and the waitress was extremely attentive to filling out water (be mindful, there is a charge for water per bottle). The chef masterfully added seasoning to each fish to amplify its flavor beautifully with umami notes in each bite. It was wonderful to watch the chef at work, which resembled art more than anything. This is a pricy meal, but well worth it for the quality and quantity of the food. I hope to return some day!
Solid omakase for the price. It's reservation only--there are 15 courses, and the group doesn't start until everyone gets there. I like how they have a wet napkin to clean your hands before, and a small wet napkin molded especially to clean your hands between pieces. The bathroom is clean and stocked with mouthwash, floss picks, etc. Our water cups were never empty and the pieces came out in good time. The glitter spray on one of the pieces towards the end is gimmicky, but I like it. I don't eat red meat, and one of the courses was a5 wagyu beef, so mg partner ate it for me. I think my least favorite of the ones that I had was the chopped tuna hand roll, a little lackluster. I was a bit disappointed that although I had wrote that we were celebrating a birthday, nothing was celebrated, though I had read in other reviews that they did so in the past. Oh well, still good quality and there's a 10% discount if you use cash!
For me, any special occasion calls for an omakase celebration. Kichi Omakase was a wonderful way to celebrate our special occasion. The staff gave us a little gift of a rose and a soft towel wrapped up like a bear before our meal. Do note that it is a BYOB establishment if you are planning to get drinks. The chefs were laser focused on their craft, and served everything with a smile. We watched in awe as all the different fish were prepped and sliced through like butter. The chef and staff were attentive to my allergy notes attached to the reservation. Every piece we were served was fresh, and the sushi rice was wonderfully seasoned. We ended up adding on the wagyu uni toast because the uni toast included in the base course was just that delicious. My boyfriend is not normally an uni fan but the toast truly changed his mind! Aside from the uni toast, the fluke piece with fluke belly was also a favorite. A big thank you to the chefs and staff for a wonderful evening to celebrate.
I went to their birthday anniversary and it was quite fun a delicious. They gave out swag bags with sake in it and a coupon! Very generous. Pros- the quality of the fish and the number of sushi and plates is delicious. Never can go wrong with Uni! Also pro tip is to pay in cash for a discount. Cash is king. You can watch the sushi being made for you up close. Here are my thoughts: Wakame seaweed 5/5 refreshing flavor blast Crab cucumber dish + Oyster that was sweet and citrusy 4.5/5 Madai was really good and soft and melted 5/5 Shima aji yummy too 4/5 Saba fire!! Toasty And lime handed to you 4/5 Kinmadai solid 4.5/5 Salmon lightly smoked with truffle salt on top 4.5/5 Uni rice w/ toro was wonderful 5/5 Toro was very very yum 5/5 A5 wagyu was my favorite 5/5 Uni can't go wrong 4.5/5 Ebi yum 4.5/5 Toro with caviar and gold spray was so pretty, fun and delicious 5/5 Baked Eel was scrumptious 4.5/5 Sake ice cream 3/5 (mine was ice Chippy) Cons-they focus on speed rather than perfection in each bite. With their model they are trying to get you in and out. The fish are cut in various slices and I saw that our chef actually miscounted and so the last person got a double chubby piece. They have a menu but there was no predictable order. My sake ice cream was a weird consistency. It's like when you have melted ice cream and then it freezes weird so you get ice chips. My partners ice cream was a normal consistency and was better. The taste is very unique and overall fun. Another con is the wait. I got there on time but had to wait around 15-20 mins to get seated Overall I had a fun time and would stop by again. The ambiance was fun but stressful because you can tell the chefs were pressed. The staff/chefs were getting stressed because the next group of people arrived and had to wait clumped in the front because everyone was wrapping up. It's not the perfect omakase but it's definitely a solid price. Worth trying.
We got still water to drink. One staff came by and asked if we wanted another bottle/ refill a couple times. We kept denying it, our cups were still filled anyways. Then another waiter came by and just filled our cups w/o asking. We were unsure if there was a charge for the water or not because he did this. We ended being charged $13 x2 for two bottles of still water. Didn't appreciate that a 2nd bottle was added unbeknownst to us. Otherwise good experience, I enjoyed the food. Everything was quality and the courses were paced well. Experience took nearly the whole 90 minutes. If you were wondering, because I know I was, "omakase upstairs" is their more intimate, secluded, quieter seating option. Vs. the regular "omakase" where you're seated on the main floor. Food is same just different seating.
Really impressed by the experience I had here! It's such a good deal for $95. The ambiance is great, intimate but also casual. My favorites were the Chu-toro and the unagi. I wish I knew where they got their little gold flake sprayer because I would just bring one of those everywhere to add a little sparkle anywhere I go. I know some people complained about how quickly the fish come on but I actually liked the pace. We finished in about an hour 15, and I eat fast anyway. My only critiques are that I wish they'd had a dessert-ish final course instead of ending us at the unagi, because I left craving something sweet. I also wish they had a menu with everything we ate because who can keep track of that many fish??
15 course omakase for under 100 bucks. I had to try this place especially since Royal Izakaya is now like $300 a person. While I liked where we were sitting, the food didn't match up to Royal Izakaya (although I don't like the experimental pieces Ito is putting out right now). I still however enjoyed my experience trying out this place. The place is byob which was really nice. We brought a nice bottle of sake and the staff graciously helped to heat up our sake. There were 2 chefs with 12 people at the table. With regard to byob I thought it was really nice that the staff would chill your bottle for you and serve it to you when you ran out. I am unsure why all the cups/tea pots were so small. The sushi quality was pretty good and I liked some of the pieces. I did feel like some of the sushi pieces had way too much wasabi which overpowered the whole dish. To be honest I think there were only like 5 pieces of sushi that wowed me. I liked the use of the blowtorch to give a bit of flavor to the pieces without overpowering the dish. The use of gold flakes was interesting as well. My favorite dish was dessert which was this amazing cheesecake but I wish they would have given a bigger slice. At the end of the meal, they did ask about add ons. They should probably not add a dessert that isn't like egg sushi piece if they wanted to do add ons that are savory. I was expecting some dessert add ons to be on the list and was disappointed to only see savory options.
